Topic: Critical Skills and Changing Market Dynamics SDLC Professionals Need to Consider for 2011

Summary: The Jobless recovery has had a major impact on the skills you need for professional success. Companies are continually asking their employees to do more with less, and drive project efficiency and success. The money and need for projects is back, but hiring to support those projects is not. It looks like hiring trends are loosening up and positions will become available in late Q1 and Q2 2011, but it will take beyond Q3 of 2011 for those new hires to have a positive impact on work loads.

In this presentation we will review four key areas:

* Review current Macro-Economic trends and impact those trends have on SDLC professionals
* Compensation trends for SDLC professionals (compare and contrast data from our Agile, BA and PM salary surveys)
* Business Analyst, Project Management and Agile Professional Trends for 2011
* Technology trends and impact those trends will have on SDLC professionals

The information we will present is based on the data we’ve collected in our BA, PM and Agile salary surveys for 2009 and 2010, conversations we constantly have with customers, feedback from our instructors, and data collected from previous seminars.

This is not a technical presentation on these topics but a presentation based on what enterprise organizations are trying to accomplish, and the skills they need to accomplish those goals

Speaker Bio: David has more than 16 years of experience in business to business continuing education. David’s area of expertise is in executive, product management, marketing and operational capacities. He has product managed the initiation, development and delivery of more than 300 instructor-led and live online training courses. Topics include software development life cycle, IT, telecommunications, financial, healthcare IT and marketing industries.

David was instrumental in the development and delivery of the training industries first voice over IP enabled live instructor led training course(s) for public consumption and chaired CompTIA’s Learning Alliance formulation committee. He was on the boards of the DSLcon, Frame Relaycon, STP Conferences and Raleigh Latin School, and is currently on the board of IIOM (International Institute of Outsourced Management).
David has participated in numerous certification committees and supported the work of certifying bodies including the Scrum Alliance, PMI, IIBA, TruSecure and CompTIA. He currently writes weekly on the ASPE-SDLC and ASPE-ROI blogs, and has published salary surveys for Agile, product management and business analysis in 2009 and 2010. David has presented at numerous IIBA chapter meetings, Comdex Chicago, OSP Conference and the ACUTA conference. He has facilitated more than 20 web seminars informing more than 2,500 business professionals on business technology topics. The Professional Scrum Master (PSM) course is the first significant update of the Certified Scrum Master (CSM) course that Ken Schwaber introduced and shared in 2002. As in the original course, the framework, mechanics, and roles of Scrum are covered.

The course then goes further by teaching students how to use Scrum to optimize value, productivity, and the total cost of ownership of systems and products. Students will learn through instruction and team-based exercises, and will be challenged to think on their feet to better understand what to do when they return to their workplaces.
